*And so it is told …
that the waters of Boca Ciega Bay off of Gulfport Beach offer up seven cool springs with legendary healing powers known around the world. When the water temperature reaches about 80 degrees, these springs can be felt as cold spots in the otherwise warm water.

On the bottom, a small hole encircled by pink sand can be seen emitting bubbles. It is the clay-like sand at the site of the spring that, when rubbed on the body, is said to have the power to heal problems of the skin. Many have traveled to Gulfport in search of the seven springs. And many claim to have been healed by their mystical powers.

Massage is a safe and beneficial health aid for everyone from infants to the elderly, except when certain contraindications are present. Massage may not be appropriate —or may require a physician’s approval—with the following:

Massage is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy because it can initiate spontaneous uterine contractions and lead to a miscarriage. If you are fewer than four months pregnant, or if you are currently trying to become pregnant, you should not receive massage. Once into your fourth month, massage is safe and effective in relieving the physical and emotional stress of pregnancy.

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils through inhalation and topical application to promote psychological and physical well being.

Essential oils are the life-giving resin that delivers oxygen and nutrients to plant life. The ancient Egyptians were the first to discover that the use of essential oils produced many benefits for the human body, mind and spirit.

Because of their unique lipid-soluble structure, the oils pass easily through cell membranes and diffuse into the bloodstream when applied topically. When inhaled, the body responds to the aroma within 1 to 3 seconds through the 800 million nerve endings in our olfactory membranes. An aromatherapy treatment may utilize a single essential oil, an essential oil blend, or an essential oil synergy.

Single oils and herbs are referenced in the Bible more than 100 times. The precious oils of frankincense, myrrh, galbanum, rosemary, hyssop, cassia, cinnamon and spikenard were used extensively for anointing and healing the sick. Today about 200 types of essential oils are distilled worldwide, with several thousand chemical constituents and aromatic molecules identified and registered.

Blends combine selected essential oils with a carrier oil. Synergies are made with only pure essential oils that have not been diluted by a carrier. They are more expensive than blends because it takes more essential oil to make a synergy. Essential oils used in both blends and synergies are handcrafted and carefully chosen to carry out a certain desired effect.

Diffusion is the process of dispersing essential oils so that their aroma fills the air with the natural fragrance. Heated diffusion utilizes a candle flame to gently heat the essential oil. A nebulizer allows for cold-air diffusion and provides more therapeutic benefits.

Our Aromatherapy Program allows you to select a traditional aromatherapy massage with topical application of essential oils or your choice of a hot- or cold-air diffused aromatherapy treatment. To customize your session, your therapist will help you choose from our collection of single essential oils, blends or synergies based on your desired outcome.
